Use This Workflow When
Use this workflow when the cluster is still on Azure Stack HCI 22H2 or another pre-Azure Local state and must complete Microsoft OS upgrade prerequisites before SBE updates apply.
Outcome
The cluster reaches an Azure Local version that can use the normal DataON SBE installation or update workflows.

- You have administrative access and an approved maintenance window
- You have reviewed Microsoft Azure Local upgrade guidance
- You have confirmed DataON or OEM support for the target Azure Local version

- If the cluster is already on Azure Local 23H2 (2311.2) or later, use the first-time installation or update workflow instead.
- Treat this page as an OS prerequisite checklist before starting DataON SBE installation or update steps.

- Do not start SBE package import or installation until the Azure Local upgrade path is complete.

- Consult DataON or your OEM support contact before upgrading the OS.
- Confirm the target Azure Local version is supported for your region and hardware.
- Plan backups, maintenance window, and post-upgrade validation.
Important Notes
- Use Microsoft-supported upgrade tooling and avoid third-party tools for the OS upgrade.
- SBE update workflows apply after the system is on Azure Local 2311.2 or later.

- Return to this guide only after the system is running Azure Local 2311.2 or later.

Verification Checklist
- Verify the system is on Azure Local 2311.2 or later
- Confirm the environment state is successful before continuing
- Review discovered updates and note whether SBE is already installed

Choose the SBE Workflow
Continue with the DataON SBE workflow that matches the upgraded system
- If no SBE is installed, continue with first-time SBE installation.
- If SBE is installed and the update requires vendor files, use manual update installation.
- If the download connector is configured, use the download connector update workflow.
